The ARCAA research facility is an architecturally designed and award-winning building which has been purpose built to meet the unique needs of ARCAA researchers. The facility houses 30+ researchers, engineers, support staff and equipment.
The research facility includes open plan office space, an aircraft simulation and testing laboratory, avionics development area, general workshop, and indoor flying area. Specialist equipment includes:
- A VICON vision-based motion capture system used for experiments in the control of micro UAS;
- A Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal-in-space simulator;
- An interactive multi-user table top for research into human-machine interface systems;
- Networked flight simulation capabilities;
- Collaborative work spaces; and
- Light metal fabrication machinery.
The facility was officially opened in September 2010 by the Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development, The Hon Andrew Fraser, MP. The facility and its equipment were funded by the Queensland State Government Smart State Research Facilities Fund.
