| Prof Walker has had a distinguished career in aerospace research having previously been responsible for the FedSat satellite navigation research program for the CRC for Satellite Systems. Since 1999, he has worked with his partners to create ARCAA which now has over 30 staff members. In the last 5 years he has attracted over $20M of research projects, including $6M funding to build ARCAA's dedicated research centre at Brisbane International Airport. He has published 55 refereed papers and book chapters, and provided media comment on aerospace matters on over 50 occasions’ (print, radio and TV). He has supervised 5 PhD and 1 Masters to completion and currently supervises 10 post-graduate students. He also coordinated Australia’s first UAV competition in 2007 and is on the steering committee for the 2008 event. He has been granted several UAV approvals by the civil aviation safety authority and he is also a pilot with night VFR and aerobatics endorsements. He is passionate about progressing automation in aviation and the prospects for the civil UAS industry. |
